A Year without Magick

It’s official, I am a muggle. Why did I accept that challenge from my nephew? Truthfully, I don’t think he meant it to be a challenge, but I took it as one.

It all started back at the beginning of 2025. My nephew, who is a ceremonial mage, and I were talking and the subject of how much intentional magick we both use came up. Everything from spur of the moment correcting reality to formal ritual and spell casting. Truthfully we realized we used intentional magick almost daily. The conversation wandered to what would life be like if we didn’t interject our power into daily life. A year and a day without intentional magick. The ceremonial mage called it the Anno Mundi.

I accepted the challenge/idea so on January 1st, 2025 I started my Anno Mundi. I claimed 2 exceptions based on they were spells already prepped and underway. One was a Wishing Dust spell meant for the children in the family. The other was my Wheel of the Year spell. The caveat was that I wouldn’t cast a Circle or do a rite. I simply enforced the spells.

At first I just had to remind myself NOT to shift reality with the force of my will. I’ve been doing it for so long it’s like breathing. My intention became NOT using magick. By March I was depressed and bored. In May I began to appreciate the UNintentional magick we all do, like housework. In June I realized I was beginning to be happy being a muggle.

Now it’s July. I’m more than halfway through my Anno Mundi. I miss my magick so much. Come January 2nd I’ll be casting magick all over the place.
